The future of the nation now lies in the hands of those who were once too young to have their say on its current state. Can pinning our hopes on a poster-boy hero tame the masses? Could the country be saved from collapse? Will the next generation get their voices heard? Written in 2011, and inspired by Shakespeare’s Coriolanus, I Am England started life as an exploration of a hypothetical post-Europe Great Britain. Five years down the line, this play perhaps resonates more deeply now than ever before.
Recommended for ages 13+ due to strong language.
Performed by Group 64's 14-18 year olds.
Group 64 creates at least four Main Stage and three Studio productions each year. Our main stage shows have included The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, The Twits, His Dark Materials and Pronoun. Our Studio space gives our older Group 64 members the opportunity to direct and create their own productions as part of our Young Directors programme, these have included DNA by Dennis Kelly and Ruckus in the Garden by David Farr.
Group 64 members are able to audition for shows from the age of 8 upwards. We hold auditions due to the number of members at Group 64 and we aim to give every member who would like to be in a show this exciting opportunity. However we can't fit everyone into every show, so we just ask members and parents to be patient and understanding, the next show comes around quickly!
Please keep an eye on the website and e-mails for information on auditions. Please see our gallery for some photos of our previous productions.
We also offer young people (aged 14+) the opportunity to get involved backstage, for every show we have Group 64 members as Stage Managers, Make Up Artists, Lighting Operators, Sound Operators, Set Painters and Props Makers. This is a wonderful opportunity for members to get involved in all aspects of a production.
